Directed, animated and edited by David Ray Alexander Instagram: @lowdrummer Band Press Photos: Bob Ciolfi www.quietlifephotography.ca Creator David Ray Alexander, as a digital effects artist, wanted to see how far he could push his knowledge of the AI workflow to transform single still images into moving sequences. THE ONLY ONE I SEE appears to be 100 short video clips (which it ultimately is) but the actual source material comes from individual still photographs referenced from public domain and the band's personal archive. Custom models and prompts were used to create over a thousand sequences that were curated and edited for the finished video. During the first year of the Covid 19 pandemic, Ron Hawkins regularly broadcast free concerts from his living room on Facebook in order to provide entertainment and maintain a sense of community in a time when isolation was mandated by the external threat to public health. These shows were known as Tommy Douglas Tuesdays. In early 2021 a high-school teacher and football coach named Dave Morrissey came up with a plan to say thank you. He reached out to musicians, Ron's friends and bandmates and collaborators to see if he could gather material to create an episode of Tommy Douglas Tuesday that Ron could actually watch. The resulting collection of performances is an extraordinary dive into one of Canada's finest song repertoires, re-imagined by an array of artists who represent a powerfully strong music community that can't wait to get out and play for people again.
